Born in Madrid in 1977, Edgar Plans’ journey into the world of art began in his early years, using pencils and crayons on various surfaces within reach, from walls in Majadahonda to nursery walls and pavements. Encouraged by a creative environment at home, with the sound of his father’s typewriter in the background, Plans developed a natural inclination towards artistic expression. Moving to Gijón in 1985, Plans found himself in a classroom not out of personal choice but due to familial convenience. Despite this, he never conformed to drawing what others suggested, preferring to explore comic strips and short stories instead of traditional subjects like still-lives and charcoal sketches. At the age of 15, he sought to expand his artistic skills and enrolled in José María Ramos’ studio, where he learned to convey his thoughts through painting and drawing. However, after two years, the desire to work independently led him to rent a room in an art studio, marking the beginning of his individual artistic journey. Now with his own studio, Plans continues to carve his unique path, exploring the balance between his faults and truths. His affinity for street art, viewed as a form of liberated and childlike creativity, has translated into his paintings. Internationally recognized for his distinctive characters, the Animal Heroes, Plans utilizes his marked colorful, expressive, and lively style to create art with a purpose. The Animal Heroes, a manifestation of Plans’ commitment to environmental advocacy, serve as a denunciation of human actions that harm the planet. Through these characters, he aims to reintroduce values like solidarity, companionship, and respect that society may be losing.
